Approach

How we work.

Architectural drawing and model-making process

Reduction as method.

We begin every project by asking what can be removed. The site, the program, the budget -- each constraint is an opportunity to clarify. We do not add until subtraction is exhausted.

Three commitments.

01

Material honesty

Concrete reads as concrete. Steel reads as steel. We do not clad, veneer, or disguise. Every material is chosen for what it is, not what it resembles.

02

Site specificity

Chicago's light, wind, and density inform every decision. A building on LaSalle behaves differently than one on Milwaukee Avenue. We design for the specific, never the generic.

03

Long view

We design for the century, not the decade. This means robust construction, honest materials, and spatial arrangements that accommodate change.

Process

Consultation. Site analysis. Schematic design. Design development. Construction documents. Administration. Six phases, each with clear deliverables. No phase begins until the previous is resolved.
